Washington's tariff focus misses the point, economists say

The Trump administration should focus less on the trade gap between the US and China and more on maintaining the competitiveness and profitability of corporate America, economists say. They argue that the trade gap merely reflects a successful economy and that Washington should work on getting Beijing to further open Chinese markets to US businesses rather than imposing tariffs on Chinese imports.
