2019 might be the year of the fintech charter

The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency vows to accept applications for a financial-technology charter despite a court challenge, possibly opening up opportunities for fintechs this year. Former Comptroller of the Currency Thomas Curry predicts a "full-service, [Federal Deposit Insurance Corp.]-insured bank with a fintech business plan" will be approved this year, and some fintechs have turned to a multistate, nonfederal platform that grants money-services businesses a single license to operate in 21 states.
