Gallup Poll: Americans’ Confidence in Banks Holds Steady

Americans’ confidence in banks held steady in 2019, according to an annual Gallup survey released this week. Thirty percent of Americans reported “a great deal” or “quite a lot” of confidence in their banks, the same percentage as last year’s survey, and up nine points from the record low notched in 2012. Public confidence in banks peaked in 2004 at 53 percent.


Banks ranked behind the Supreme Court, the church or organized religion and the medical system, but ahead of public schools, organized labor and the criminal justice system. The military, small business and police were the top ranked institutions, while Congress had the lowest confidence rating, with only 11% expressing confidence. Read more
