White House defends plan to revamp Fannie, Freddie

Trump administration officials have testified before the Senate banking committee on a plan to return Fannie and Freddie to private ownership. Democratic senators expressed concern that taking Fannie and Freddie out from under government control would increase the cost of homebuying and would ignore the needs of low-income homeowners. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said the plan "would preserve the long-standing government support of the 30-year fixed-rate mortgage loan." Read more.
